
The construction markets have been full of activity from both the private and public sectors according to data from the National Construction Authority which shows the value, type of projects and client type for the first half of the year to 30th June 2018.
According to the data, most projects approved by NCA had a value range of between Sh. 5m to Sh. 50m. The authority approved 1929 such projects during the period. This was followed by 285 projects worth less than Sh. 5m in value while there were 265 projects with a value range of between Sh. 50m and Sh. 200m.
The authority also approved 51 projects valued at between Sh. 200m to Sh. 500m and 20 projects with a value range of between Sh. 500m and Sh. 1billion.
Most of the projects approved during the period were building works (2,522). There were also 23 road works, 10 electrical works and nine waterworks.
In terms of client variety, the data shows that most of the construction activity in the country is done by private organizations and individuals. 92.3 per cent of those seeking project approvals were private entities followed by NGOs and social organizations who accounted for 4.6 per cent of the projects.
Government bodies and parastatals initiated just 2.3 per cent of the projects and county governments accounted for 1 per cent.
