Nairobi National Park to be Issued With Title Deed
The government plans to expand land occupied by Nairobi National Park and issue title deeds to all national parks and reserves, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday said. He was speaking at the Ministry of Lands where he presided over the issuance of title deeds to pastoralists from the Samburu community. During the event, the President issued a title deed for 2,000-acre expansion of Nairobi National Park and a title to Ministry of Environment and Forestry for the 155-acre Nairobi City Park. He also issued a deed for 119,000 acres of Maasai Mara National Reserve. “We don’t want to continue talking about issues of land but bring solutions to land matters so that the citizens can go on with their lives and together we can expand our economy,” he said. Apart from Nairobi National Park, the Ministry of Lands also plans to issue title deeds to five million Kenyans over the next seven years in order to increase productivity by ensuring land security. During the event, the President cautioned that investors were shying away from setting up industries in Kenya due to high land prices. He asked governors to provide land for special economic zones to incentivize investors against the high cost of land. “We must have government land that we can allocate to investors to set up their industries because we want jobs for our youth and we cannot get those jobs without industries,” the President said. The Head of State later flagged off 75 vehicles for use in the National Land Titling Programme. The vehicles will be allocated to all the 60 registries within the country Read; Half of Kenyans don't have land titles, says Lands CS
