Nairobi County Government is in the final stages of putting up a new fire station. Nairobi County Governor Mike Sonko yesterday declared the development on his official twitter handle.
“My administration in conjunction with Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project is finalizing construction of Kangundo Road fire station,” he said. “Once complete, the fire station will be fully equipped with fire engines, ambulances, and adequate personnel to run the operations,” he added.
The tweet includes photos of a fairly expansive facility, in the works.
The governor also announced the planned and ongoing upgrades of some of the cities squalid lanes. “The new look of Moi Lane off Tom Mboya street,’’ reads the tweet, “We are also rehabilitating other CBD back street lanes to ensure we have quality roads. In the next financial year we are expecting an uplift of major roads in Nairobi.”
In another pronouncement, the governor declared the progress on the construction of Dandora Stadium.
“We are finalizing construction of the Dandora Stadium. The FIFA standard stadium will be ready to host local and international matches by August. My admin is also finalizing plans to renovate City Stadium & construct four other stadia in Jacaranda Grounds, Kihumbuini, Kariokor & Woodley,” said the Governor.
The projects are being undertaken under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project which includes the construction of commuter rail stations among other projects. Last month, the World Bank lauded Governor Sonko for his efforts in improving the state of the city.
