The Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has invited contractors to showcase affordable housing models through Innovative Building Materials and Technologies (IBMT).
According to the National Construction Authority, the Housing Principal Secretary Charles Hinga Mwaura made the announcement while speaking during a multi-sectoral meeting at the Ministry headquarters where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting local talent when it came to the Big Four Affordable Housing Agenda.
“We are giving local contractors and developers a chance to show us what they can do. We will give them space to put up a show house, using IBMT, and if they can demonstrate the most prudent and efficient use of resources, they will be a part of the dream team,” he said.
The National Construction Authority has invited interested contractors and developers to complete tender documents to be dropped off at the National Construction Authority Headquarters.
The announcement said that all successful candidates will be contacted personally, and will be allowed to showcase their designs at the annual Nairobi International Trade Fair.
Affordable housing remains a critical pillar of the government’s Big Four agenda, with the promise to deliver over half a million housing units within the next few years. The selected exhibitors will be required to demonstrate cost effectiveness, innovation as well as functionality and environmental sustainability.
