
Africa’s biggest mall, mall of Africa is marking 2 years since its opening on 28th April 2016. The mall which has been very successful over the two years of operation has had growing popularity among shoppers, resulting in sturdy performance.
Mall of Africa saw a 9 percent increase in the number of visitors in the year-on-year to December 2018. The mall has continued the growth streak this year with a 4 percent increase in the number of visitors in January. Even more telling, February had an increase of 8 percent while March was the more impressive at 11 percent.
The mall has been no less impressive with sales, with 10.49 percentage increase in turnover year-on-year to December 2017. January figures an increase of 6 percent while February and March had increases in turnover of 12.84 percent and 21 percent respectively. During the first 11 months of trading, the mall recorded over $242 million in sales and a human traffic of 13 million people. The figures have increased since then.
The mall is a valuable part of property fund Attacq, which is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
The mall has also had a some additions in branded shops to its variety since opening. The mall has over the past six months opened eighteen stores which include local and international retailers, restaurants and speciality stores.
The additions include luxury brands Michael Kors, Emporio Armani, Tommy Hilfiger and Levinson’s, while fashion icons like Superdry, Hurley, Ramsey, Refinery, The Fix and Heely’s are also present. These have contributed to the overall improvement in the mall’s performance.
For now it seems the marketing team’s effort which has been to position the mall as “Where Africa meets the World – the true Home of Africa’s luxury”, has paid off. The mall has built partnerships and relationships with many brands, which has enabled it to hold a number of high-profile local and international events in arts, design and fashion, attracting visitors and shoppers to the mall.
As the mall celebrates its second anniversary this weekend, visitors will today be treated to free parking, access to free drummers and face painters, balloon art sculptors and other packages for adults as well as kids.
